What we collect

Your email address.

Stored with it, as evidence that you agreed: the date and time, which page you signed up from, which version of the consent note you were shown, your IP address and your browser’s user-agent string.

We do not collect your name, cookies, or any advertising or tracking profile.

What we use it for, and on what basis

To write to you about MyTemple — a new monastery filmed, the app opening for testing, the launch campaign going live. A few emails a year. We do not sell the list, rent it, or share it with anyone for their own purposes.

The basis is your consent, under GDPR Article 6(1)(a). We ask twice: you enter your address, and we email you a link you have to click. You are on the list only after the second step, which is also why we keep the record described above.

Giving us your address is entirely optional. Nothing else on this site depends on it.

Who else handles it

One company, under contract as our processor and not for its own purposes:

  1. Cloudflare hosts the site, stores the list and sends the confirmation email. The database is restricted to the European Union.

Cloudflare also runs the check that tells people from bots when the form is submitted. It looks at your IP address and some characteristics of your browser, and sets no cookies.

If we ever start sending a regular newsletter we will need a company to send it, and we will name them here before your address reaches them.

Does it leave Europe?

The database sits in the European Union, and that is where your address is stored.

Cloudflare, Inc. is an American company, though. Under EU law, a company outside Europe being able to reach your data counts as a transfer even when the data itself does not move. Our agreement with them covers it using the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

Those clauses are a standard text the Commission publishes, and they sit inside our agreement with each company rather than as a document of their own. Write to us if you would like a copy of the ones that cover your address.

How long we keep it

Your address: until you unsubscribe, or until we stop using the list for what you signed up for — whichever comes first. If you unsubscribe we keep the address itself on a do-not-mail list, so we do not write to you again by mistake.

The consent record — your IP address and the user-agent string — for six months after you unsubscribe, and then we delete it. It exists only to show that you agreed, so it does not outlive your subscription by more than that.

If you enter your address and never click the link in the confirmation email, we delete the whole record a month later. You did not agree to anything, so there is nothing for us to keep.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, or send it to you in a portable form. You can withdraw your consent, and you can object to what we are doing with it. Write to info@funkymonks.fi and we will act on it.

If you think we have got it wrong, you can complain to the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (Tietosuojavaltuutetun toimisto), tietosuoja.fi.

Getting off the list

Write to info@funkymonks.fi and we will take you off, and tell you we have.

Once we start sending a newsletter, every one of those emails will carry an unsubscribe link. Today the only email we send is the one asking you to confirm your address, and it does not need one: if you ignore it you are never added, and we do not write to you again.

Changes

If this page changes we will date the change here. If a change materially affects what we do with your address, we will email you rather than quietly edit the page.
